In the mood for Berlin12.09.2007 CIM Issue 4 / Sep 07Meeting Place Meeting Place. “The customers were thrilled!" - and so is Heike Mahmoud. This was the fourth time the director of the Berlin Convention Office (BCO) presented the German capital to meeting managers in all its glory. "The programme was interesting and informative. You really made me want to discover more of Berlin," confirms Iris Winkelkötter of American Express Germany. With her, 94 planners from Germany and 44 international guests travelled to the event from 14 to 16 June. The Programme catered to their tastes with a Meet Facilities Day featuring theme site inspections like "New/Design Hotels” such as Hotel de Rome, "unusual venues" like the Church of the Resurrection or simply "Off your own bat". At the Meet Professionals Day guests were introduced to 50 event service providers in Berlin; Meet Berlin Day featured city tours by Trabi, networking at Hamburger Bahnhof Museum and an open-air concert of the Berlin Philharmonic at the Waldbühne. Meeting Place has attracted 320 planners from 18 countries so far, BTM-boss Hanns Peter Nerger knows: "If we can get these international attendees in the mood for the destination, we'll be able to reinforce the economic role of meetings and conventions in the German capital." In 2006 the BCO posted 95,500 meetings and incentives - up seven per cent. www.meeting-place-berlin.de |
